Origin Energy Ltd has announced that Gordon Cairns will retire as its Chairman and Director having been in the role since October 2013.

Scott Perkins has been elected to succeed Cairns as the Chairman of the Board.

Cairns said, “Being the Chairman of Origin for the past seven years has been a privilege. I would like to thank the management team, led by our CEO Frank Calabria, and all my colleagues at Origin for their commitment to our shareholders, customers, and communities. I also thank my fellow Board members for their support and counsel.

“I am pleased to be leaving the business in a strong financial and operational position and well placed to continue to prosper in the future. Origin will have an excellent new Chairman in Scott Perkins, with his deep knowledge of the company, extensive breadth and depth of experience as a non-executive director and as a former advisor in corporate strategy, mergers, acquisitions, and capital markets.”

Perkins said, “The strong position Origin is in is testament to Gordon’s leadership and the skill and dedication of our people. On behalf of the Board and management, I would like to thank Gordon for his contribution to Origin over many years. I consider it a great privilege to serve as Chairman of such a successful Australian company. While there are unquestionably near term challenges facing our community and economy, Origin is resilient and well placed to navigate through these times. I look forward to working closely with Frank, our management team and my Board colleagues to enable Origin to reach its full potential.”

Perkins joined Origin’s Board in September 2015. He is a member of the Audit, Remuneration and People, Health, Safety and Environment, Risk, and Nomination committees.
