Nova Scotia minister approves Goldboro LNG
Nova Scotia’s Environment Minister, Randy Delorey, has approved the Goldboro LNG project, with terms and conditions to protect health and environment.
The approval follows recommendations by a panel appointed for the class two environmental assessment, the province's most rigorous environmental review process.
Economic benefits
Delorey commented: "I thank the panel members for their work on this project and their service to Nova Scotians. Based on their report and a review by department staff, I am confident any potential environmental issues can be addressed and the economic benefits of this project can be realised."
There are 40 conditions in the approval that address wetlands, potential impacts on wildlife, and greenhouse gas emissions. Conditions require Goldboro LNG to work with department staff to identify opportunities to reduce emissions at every phase of the project.
Further approvals
Proponents must now obtain industrial approvals from the Department of Environment for various elements of the plant's operation, and must also obtain approval for the project from the Utility and Review Board.
The environmental assessment documents can be accessed here.
