P&O cruise ship leaves Meyer Werft shipyard

The newbuild P&O cruise ship, IONA, has departed from the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg.

The vessel was conveyed on the river Ems to Eemshaven (NL), assisted by two tugs. It is now due to go through several days of technical and nautical sea trials on the North Sea.

Iona is one of the world’s first ever LNG-powered cruise ships. The luxury liner will be able to accommodate up to 5200 passengers, measures 344.5 m long, and has a gross tonnage of 184 000 t.
