GAZ-SYSTEM uses AOG 2018 to open doors for Australian companies to do business in Poland

A sizeable Polish delegation has used AOG 2018 to invite Australian companies to help them expand the LNG and gas transmission systems in Central and Eastern Europe.
Led by GAZ-SYSTEM, one of the main transmission system operators in region, and supported by Austrade, the delegation revealed that they were particularly interested in Australian companies' experience in LNG and subsea.
Tomasz Stepien, CEO of GAZ-SYSTEM, told an AOG Press Conference, that there are significant opportunities for Australian companies in Poland with a number of key investments and projects underway. Currently, the company is conducting projects, that have the potential to change the gas market in Central and Eastern Europe.
Stepien said that one of the key projects is the Northern Gate concept, which will allow for a diversification of sources of gas supply, not only with respect to the Polish market, but also to Central and Eastern Europe and the Baltic states.
He added that it is primarily the Baltic Pipe Program that will enable the transmission of gas from the Norwegian shelf, up to 10 billion m3 annually. GAZ-SYSTEM is implementing this project along with its Danish partner – Energinet.
Another key investment is the expansion of the President Lech Kaczynski LNG Terminal in Swinoujscie, which will include increasing regasification capacities from 5 billion m3 to 7.5 billion m3 of natural gas annually, establishment of the second quay providing embarking of LNG and bunkering of the vessels as well as construction of a railway siding.
“Our visit to Perth is a continuation of the cooperation with Austrade and Australian business and the next step in searching for innovative solutions for our projects. Our goal is to attract more Australian companies to work with GAZ-SYSTEM, particularly in the field of LNG technology and construction of gas pipelines, including subsea pipelines. Australasian Oil & Gas Exhibition & Conference is a great opportunity for this” Stepien said.
He added that when implementing the undersea part of the Baltic Pipe project, GAZ-SYSTEM will benefit from the engineering support and experience of Perth-based Subsea Engineering Associates Pty Ltd (SEA).
“There is a large number of investment-related challenges we are going to face. We would like to invite Australian companies to collaborate with us. We encourage Australian companies to take part in tenders related both to the LNG terminal and the construction of the new gas pipelines. GAZ-SYSTEM counts on the expertise and achievements of Australian companies as well as their participation in our projects” Stepien said.
Anthony Weymouth, Austrade’s Senior Trade Commissioner based in Warsaw, Poland said this was GAZ-SYSTEM’s first major visit to Australia.
“We are delighted that GAZ-SYSTEM are travelling to Perth to meet with industry and speak at AOG. We believe there is potential for close cooperation between Australian and Central European companies,” Weymouth said.
