Gorgon LNG begins to restart operations

Following the news in April 2016 that the Gorgon LNG export plant in Australia had shut down due to technical problems, Reuters reports that Chevron has commenced restarting the facility. One Chevron spokesman reportedly told Reuters that start-up activities have commenced on Train 1, and that production should resume safely within the coming weeks.

The Gorgon LNG project, which is located on Barrow Island off the Northwest coast of Western Australia, only recently exported its first LNG cargo in March 2016. The cargo was shipped to Japan’s Chubu Electric via the Asia Excellence LNG carrier.

Once all three of the facility’s production trains are operational, the project will be capable of producing 15.6 million tpy of LNG.
