ClassNK has announced that it has granted Approval in Principle (AIP) to Maritime Innovation Japan Corp. (MIJAC) for a 98 000 dwt LNG-fuelled bulk carrier.
The vessel will feature a 2000 m3 LNG tank (IMO Type B), as well as an LNG fuel supply system. Both the main engine and generator engines will operate on dual-fuel.
ClassNK carried out a safety evaluation using the International Code of Safety for Ships using Gases or other Low Flashpoint Fuels (IGF Code). The IGF code will be effective as of 1 January 2017. In addition to this, ClassNK made use of its own Guidelines for Gas Fuelled Ships.
