NextDecade signs site lease agreements for LNG project

The site is close to 1000 acres in size, which will allow for design flexibility and possible expansion capability. The site also benefits from its deepwater access and proximity to nearby natural gas pipeline infrastructure. Texas City owns close to 376 acres at Shoal Point. The Texas General Land Office, meanwhile, manages the adjoining 618 acres of state land.

Kathleen Eisbrenner, NextDecade Chairman and CEO, said: “Now more than ever, the US has the potential to benefit from the incredible natural gas resources we have right here in Texas.

“The US is the most competitive source of LNG in the world and NextDecade is looking forward to bringing new supply to the global marketplace from the heart of the global energy industry.”

Combined, the Ports of Houston, Texas City and Galveston form the largest port complex in North America, and this latest project would be the first LNG facility in the area.

In a statement, NextDecade also claimed that its 27 million tpy Rio Grande LNG project in South Texas is quickly advancing through the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) permitting process. The company claims that the Shoal Point based project will benefit from the ability to replicate much of the design and engineering work originally done for the Rio Grande project.
