Reuters is reporting that Inpex Corp. is ready to export the first LNG cargo from its long-awaited Ichthys LNG project in northwestern Australia.
The shipment will mark a significant milestone for Inpex, as the operator of Japan’s largest overseas investment. This is also the first major project where the company has performed the role of lead operator.
The US$40 billion project has seen multiple delays and significant cost overruns.
According to an Inpex spokesman, production had been going smoothly and shipments of LNG and LPG are set to begin.
An official schedule for the inaugural shipments is yet to be released.
