King & Spalding opens Tokyo office

King & Spalding has opened a new office in Tokyo, Japan, after receiving approval from the Japanese Ministry of Justice.

The Tokyo office will anchor the firm’s energy practice throughout the Asia-Pacific region, alongside its existing office in Singapore.

Robert D. Hays, Jr., Chairman of King & Spalding, said: "The Tokyo office capitalises on the momentum the firm has already achieved in the energy, projects, finance, construction and international arbitration arena […] Our clients will benefit from our increased expertise and expanded presence in Asia."

John McClenahan, Mark Davies and Chris Bailey have been named as the founding partners of the Tokyo office. Rupert Lewi will also join the firm from Ashurst in October 2015. The team will advise on all aspects across the life of infrastructure and energy and resources projects. The lawyers specialise in energy and resources (LNG, floating LNG, RSUR, FPSO, gas pipelines, petrochemicals, upstream oil and gas, power generation facilities and mining); infrastructure development; dispute resolution; finance; and corporate.
