Russia grants energy majors right to export LNG

LNG Industry,

The Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev yesterday signed a governmental resolution which granted Rosneft, Yamal LNG, Gazprom and Gazprom-export the right to export LNG.

“According to the law the government should approve a list of organisations to which the exclusive right for LNG export is granted,” Medvedev stated at a meeting with deputies. “I have signed this resolution. According to current criteria this right is granted to four companies, namely OJSC Gazprom, its subsidiary Gazprom-export and two other companies OJSC Rosneft and OJSC Yamal LNG.”

Medvedev described LNG as moving the world’s energy in a positive direction and said that Russia would look to develop its LNG industry. “Although we have huge reserves of natural gas, [and are] the largest exporter of natural gas [via the] pipeline system, the so-called pipeline gas, we must not give up from the development of other areas in the gas industry, including the creation of liquefied gas and its subsequent export.”
