GTT, HHI to commercialise new technology
GTT has signed a cooperation agreement with Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) for the industrialisation of its new Mark V technology.
The scope of the agreement includes the development and qualification of an innovative welding robot for the primary stainless steel and secondary invar membranes. The robot will permit the optimisation of the welding process and a reduction in construction time.
The Mark V technology is an optimised version of the Mark III system and its sister Mark III Flex. It is composed of a double insulation with reinforced polyurethane foam. The new system also includes a nickel-steel alloy corrugated secondary membrane and offers significant improvement of the warranted daily boil-off rate. The Mark V technology has received Approvals in Principal (AIPs) from a number of major classification societies.
GTT recently signed a similar partnership with Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI).
Philippe Berterottière, Chairman and CEO of GTT, commented: "We are very pleased to see HHI embarked onto this major development programme. It allows us to be quite confident in the possibility for Mark V to be commercialised from 2015".
