Veresen Inc. has released a statement claiming that it has received an order from the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) denying the Jordan Cove LNG and Pacific Connector Gas Pipeline applications. The applications sought authorisation to construct and operate an LNG export terminal and natural gas pipeline. The FERC claimed that the Pacific Connector’s public benefits are not sufficient to outweigh the potential negative impacts on landowners and communities as a whole. Despite denial from the FERC, a request will be filed for a rehearing of the decision.
Don Althoff, the President and CEO of Veresen, said: “Clearly, we are extremely surprised and disappointed by the FERC decision.
"The FERC appears to be concerned that we have not yet demonstrated sufficient commercial support for the projects. We will continue to advance negotiations with customers to address this concern."
