ENGIE establishes regional hub for energy innovation in Singapore

ENGIE has announced that, with support from the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), it has opened the ENGIE Lab Singapore, which will serve as a regional hub for energy technology and innovation in Southeast Asia.

This lab is the most recent addition to the group’s international R&D network, which now consists of 11 research centres (ENGIE Labs) and 1100 researchers and experts across the globe.

The lab will focus on three main areas: industrial energy efficiency, gas technologies, and smart energy systems for both islands and cities. It will support and work alongside various ENGIE entities that have already been established in the region, and will see its teams manage R&D projects based on their different areas of expertise. These include the management of new energy sources, digital systems (such as the Internet of Things) and mobile apps. Existing technologies will also be improved in order optimise energy infrastructure, etc.

The CEO of ENGIE, Isabelle Kocher, said: “The opening of the ENGIE Lab Singapore is a key milestone of the development strategy of ENGIE in Southeast Asia to support the transition to low-carbon energy sources.

Singapore’s dynamic innovation ecosystem and regional connectivity provides the right environment for us to set up this leading-edge R&D centre to develop practical solutions to meet the energy challenges in the region, and will help businesses to maintain their technological excellence.”

The company already has over 1600 employees based in Singapore, working in a number of different fields, including power generation, energy services, energy trading, LNG and research. ENGIE claims that this new regional hub will help to develop green energy in the region.
