LNG Industry,
According to a recent Reuters update, China’s natural gas imports soared to record levels in December as the country faced winter supply crunches.
Data from the General Administration of Customs showed that December gas imports, including pipeline imports and tanker shipments of LNG, came in at almost 7.9 million t – 20% higher than November’s record of 6.6 million t.
Imports for the whole of 2017 jumped 27% from 2016 to a record of just under 68.6 million t.
The record spikes continue to be fed by a massive government push to heat millions of homes and power thousands of factories with natural gas, instead of coal and other fossil fuels, in northern China.
