Svitzer has announced it has ordered two additional ASD tugs from Sanmar Shipyards. The vessels will service the Ichthys LNG project, which is operated by INPEX and located in the Port of Darwin, Australia. The delivery is scheduled for 2017.
The 80 t bollard pull RAstar 2800 terminal tugs will have escort ability and be able to accommodate 10 crew members each. The vessels both feature a render/recovery winch, aft winch, FIFI 1 and LNG package. They will help LNG, LPG and condensate carriers operating at the port.
The tugs will primarily serve in towage operations, but will also provide the following: safety standby; emergency and environment incident response; fire fighting; maintenance work support on marine infrastructure; and salvage operations within the port.
