AB Amber Grid signs pipeline expansion contracts

AB Amber Grid has signed contracts for the enlargement of the Lithuanian gas transmission pipeline Klaipeda-Kuršenai and the purchase of pipes necessary for the construction.

The contract for the construction works of the Klaipeda–Kuršenai pipeline was awarded to UAB Alvora, operating under a joint venture agreement together with UAB Kauno dujotiekio statyba and UAB Šiauliu dujotiekio statyba signed. The value of the contract stands at approximately US$ 51.1 million (excluding VAT).

The contract on the purchase of steel pipes necessary for the construction of gas transmission pipeline Klaipeda–Kuršenai was concluded with Noksel Celik Boru Sanayi A.S., operating under a joint venture agreement with Borusan Mannesmann Boru Sanayi Ve Tic A.S. and Erciyas Celik Boru Sanayi A.S. The value of this contract 22.4 million exclusive of VAT.

The expansion of the Klaipeda–Kuršenai pipeline is aimed at diversifying gas supply sources in the Baltic region, creating sufficient capacities for transporting natural gas from the LNG terminal in Klaipeda to consumers in Lithuania and other Baltic countries, and ensuring the safety and reliability of operations of natural gas supply.

A 110 km long, 800 mm wide pipeline going from Klaipeda LNG terminal to Kuršenai will be built for the implementation of the project. The project will begin at the end of 2015.
