According to the statement, up to four vessels have been ordered at Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore Ltd, China, for whom KNUD E. HANSEN will provide the engineering package for the construction and approval by classification and flag state authorities.
KNUD E. HANSEN claims that this is the fourth series of ultra large RoRo vessels it has designed since 2016, leading to the construction of over 20 of these vessels in the coming years.
The company claims that it worked closely with Wallenius-SOL during the development in order to optimise the design for the Swedish company’s unique design criteria and operational requirements.
According to the statement, each of the 1A super ice-classed vessels will have a length of 242 m and a deadweight capacity of 27 000 t, making them the largest in the class. In addition to this, the vessels will be the first mega RoRo vessels in the world to be powered by LNG-fuelled engines. During port calls, the ships will operate on green electricity from shore connections or LNG. Together with other environmentally friendly initiatives, the vessels will not only be among the world’s largest, they will also be among industry leaders of green RoRo vessels.
