Bestobell Marine has announced that it has obtained approval for its range of globe and check cryogenic valves from four main class societies: DNV-GL; Lloyds Register; Bureau Veritas; and American Bureau of Shipping. The valves will be used in onboard cryogenic applications, such as in cargo systems on LNG carriers and bunker vessels, LNG regasification systems, LNG fuel gas systems, and LNG liquefaction systems.
Full approval was required, due to the change in requirements from the IACS class societies in early 2014. If Bestobell did not have Type Approval for its products, it would be forced to undergo extensive testing for each order of valves produced, leading to increased costs and, therefore, increased prices.
