LNG Industry,
Chart Industries Inc. is the first LNG vehicle tank manufacturer to obtain European ECE R110 certification for a range of its products.
The LNG industry’s key motivation for the introduction of the certification standard is safety and its requirements were shaped by key industry stakeholders, formed under the umbrella of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), consisting of several vehicle OEMs, LNG vehicle equipment suppliers, industry associations, national approval bodies and vehicle up-fitters. The final requirements were approved in November 2013 and, in the interim, Chart has successfully completed all the necessary homologation testing and documentation required for product approval.
The ECE R110 approved design features Chart’s ‘Integrated’ HLNG Tank, which is a self-contained light weight and compact LNG fuel storage system. Approval has been granted on a range of different tank lengths and diameters to facilitate multiple customer requirements.
Hans Lonsain, President of Chart D&S Europe, said: “We expect that the new standard will open the door to increased use of LNG as an economic, efficient, safe and environmentally friendly vehicle fuel alternative to diesel in Europe. Furthermore, Chart’s certification is a further demonstration of our commitment to providing the best on-board and complete LNG & LBG vehicle fuel system solutions to the market.”
