Woodfibre LNG projects receives boost from parent company

Woodfibre LNG Ltd has announced that its parent company, Pacific Oil & Gas Ltd (part of the RGE group of companies), has authorised the funds necessary for the Woodfibre LNG Project to proceed.
The proposed 2.1 million tpy LNG export facility will be located at the former Woodfibre Pulp Mill near Squamish, British Columbia (B.C.), Canada. The LNG facility will use an electric drive (eDrive).
This decision follows the government of British Columbia’s Climate Leadership Plan initiative, which encourages the use of electricity in the natural gas industry in B.C. Electricity from BC Hydro is more than 90% clean renewable energy.
Byng Giraud, Country Manager and Vice President of Corporate Affairs, Woodfibre LNG Ltd, said: “At Woodfibre LNG Ltd, building a project that is right for Squamish and right for B.C. is our priority, which is why we made the decision to use electricity to power our facility, instead of natural gas, following community concerns over air quality […] The Province’s decision to offer a competitive electricity rate for proponents that choose eDrive technology allowed this ‘go forward’ decision to happen.”
Woodfibre LNG expects to create approximately 650 construction jobs per year over the two-year construction period, as well as 100 full-time jobs at the site during operation.
Construction of the LNG project is expected to begin next year (pending permitting), with operation set for 2020.
