ITA training programme offered to Aboriginal People

The Industry Training Authority (ITA) has announced its new trades training programme, which will be offered in October 2015, in order to increase the number of Aboriginal People in skilled trades by 15 000 over the next 10 years.
The programme will be offered to the Fort St. James and Prince Rupert communities, and supports BC Skills for Jobs Blueprint.
Tl’azt’en Nation Pilot Programme, near Fort St. James, and the Gitxaala Enhanced Construction Craft Worker (E-CCW) Pilot Programme, near Prince Rupert, are expected to created 58 700 direct and indirect construction jobs, and 23 800 permanent, direct and indirect, operations jobs.
The Enhanced Construction Craft Worker Programme
The Enhanced Construction Craft Worker Programme is a training and employment programme to support Aboriginal People in the CCW trade. It provides training in three key area: up-front essential skills assessment, CCW Level 1 in-school technical training, and connections to apprentice sponsorship and employment.Gary Herman, CEO of ITA, commented: “The two Enhanced Construction Craft Worker Pilot Programmes are a stat at training British Columbia’s Aboriginal communities for jobs in construction and the LNG sector. With this entry-level programme plus the new Red Seal Construction Craft Worker Programme, we are investing in British Columbians to ensure they are first in line for jobs here in our province.”
