RINA Group wins Greek LNG terminal expansion contract
The international verification and engineering RINA Group will carry out Basic Engineering Design, Environmental and Social Impact Assessment, Safety and other studies for the expansion of Greece’s only LNG terminal, at Revithoussa. The four month project was awarded to RINA by DESFA (Hellenic Gas Transmission System Operator S.A.).
The expansion of the LNG Revithoussa terminal cryogenic facilities will boost the maximum sustainable gas send-out rate to 1400 Nm3/h (with a peak send-out rate of 1650 Nm3/h). The existing terminal consists of an import jetty, two full containment storage tanks, plus one under construction, re-gasification equipment and send-out facilities. It is situated on an island west of Athens and currently handles between 0.51 and 0.68 billion m3 of gas annually, supplied by Algeria's Sonatrach.
The expansion project will analyse potential interfaces not only with the existing LNG Terminal, but also the third tank under construction.
Angelo Lo Nigro, RINA Group Energy Manager, says, “RINA has been chosen for this vital expansion project because of our expertise with gas, and because of our ability to draw on multiple skills and competences within the RINA Group.”
