Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) have secured a contract for two 174 000 m3 LNG carriers on BOD approval term. The cost will be US$184 million per vessel and they are due for delivery in July and October 2020.
The LNG carriers will be equipped with Mark-III Flex type containment systems with re-liquefaction capabilities to minimise BOG. The vessels will be loaded with fuel saving technologies, customised to meet the owner's operational needs.
Powered by X-DF, the trending dual-fuel engine, the vessels will have the option of running on either natural gas or diesel. Hong Kong's CLSA Securities have reported that this engine’s popularity has grown significantly in the LNG carrier market this year.
