TonenGeneral Sekiyu K.K., Shimizu Corp. and Shizuoka Gas Co. Ltd have announced that they have established a new joint venture (JV) company to construct an LNG-fuelled thermal electric power plant. The company is called Shimizu LNG Thermal Power Generation Godo Kaisha, and the plant will be based on the TonenGeneral Shimizu terminal premises.
The new company will handle technological studies of the project, external relations and environmental assessments. TonenGeneral, meanwhile, will oversee the operations of the company, whilst also continuing to work on the different methods of procuring LNG, as well as other matters involved in the project. Shizimu Corp. and Shizuoka Gas will collaborate with TonenGeneral, with Shizimu focusing on technological studies, and Shizuoka on external relations.
Any final investment decisions will be made after environmental assessments, construction costs, economic returns, Japanese energy trends and policies, and the domestic electricity business environment have been taken into account.
TonenGeneral will invest 85%, whilst Shimizu and Shizuoka will invest 10% and 5%, respectively.
