Baleària orders two LNG-fuelled passenger ferries

Baleària and Shipyard Construcciones Navales del Norte (LaNaval) have reached an agreement for the construction of two LNG-fuelled ferries. The ships will be among the largest in Europe. Construction of the first ferry is expected in 2016, and operation will begin in 1Q18.
Adolfo Utor, Chairman of Baleària, said: “The investment in the construction of new ships is the way of growing and being more competitive […] These ferries will be very technologically advanced and innovative units.”
“This agreement is a key milestone for LaNaval, gaining a new strategic client like Baleària with which we want to establish a long-term relationship, it consolidates our company’s strategy in the ferry market and, in general, in the design and construction of technologically advance and sophisticated ships,” added Iñaki Irasuegui, LaNaval’s Managing Director.
