LNG conversion-ready tanker delivered by General Dynamics NASSCO

General Dynamics NASSCO has announced that it has delivered the Independence – a 610 ft long, 50 000 DWT, 330 000 barrel capacity, LNG conversion-ready, ECO Class product tanker. The vessel was launched in December 2015.

The vessel was constructed for SEA-Vista LLC, and was designed by DSEC, which is a subsidiary of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME). The vessel includes a G-series MAN Diesel & Turbo ME slow-speed main engine, a ballast water treatment system (BWTS) and an optimised hull form. It is also designed to be able to be converted to an LNG fuel-gas system in the future.

The Independence’s construction and operation are in line with the Jones Act, which states that vessels carrying cargo between US ports must be built in US shipyards. The same applies for the vessel’s two sister ships.
