NYK signs charter agreement for LNG carrier with Total

NYK Line has announced that it has signed an agreement with Total Gas & Power Chartering Ltd (TGPCL), under which the Total subsidiary will charter from NYK a newly built LNG carrier for a period of seven years, with the option to extend this by a further year.

The new carrier will be constructed by Samsung Heavy Industries Co. Ltd in Korea, and is scheduled for delivery in 2021. It will feature a dual-fuel slow-speed diesel engine built by WinGD that has superior fuel-consumption efficiency and can operate on marine gas oil (MGO) or boil-off gas (BOG) stored in the cargo tank. The membrane-type cargo tank will have a capacity of 174 000 m³, and will make use of advanced insulating materials to suppress the boil-off rate in the cargo tank. In addition to this, the carrier will realise excellent efficiency and economical LNG transportation through the use of a reliquefaction system that can use surplus BOG effectively.

In the statement, NYK claims that it will continue to provide flexible and optimal LNG transport options that meet customers’ diversifying needs, and continue the company’s efforts to contribute to a stable supply of LNG as an environmentally friendly fuel.

INEOS and Covestro LNG-linked gas supply agreement

INEOS and Covestro have announced a long-term agreement for the supply of natural gas for up to eight years, starting in 2027.
