LNT Marine, Wuhu Shipyard Co.,Ltd., and Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute (SDARI) have signed a joint design project cooperation to develop a design for a 40 000m3 LNG carrier based on the LNT A-BOX® containment system.

The vessel design, referred to as the ‘WuhuMax’, will be a shallow draft LNG carrier optimised for trade on Yangtze river with limited air and water draught. The parties will participate and contribute with its respective areas of competence.

The simplicity and flexibility of the LNT A-BOX containment system makes it particularly well suited for shallow draft designs as it enables high volume utilisation and an efficient design even for extreme hull shapes. The vessel will offer shallow draft, as well as low air draught, enabling trade from large scale terminals to smaller terminals along the Yangtze River.

LNG shipping along the Yangtze River is expected to fuel a second wave of LNG import and distribution in China, as 10 planned new LNG terminals will be completed in its vicinity within the next few years.
