The Port of Bilbao has announced that its first LNG bunkering operation has been successfully executed.

The commercial, safety and technical operations were carried out completely by MOLGAS ENERGÍA (LNG purchase, transport, and loading). The truck-to-ship operation was carried out at the port in March 2017.

The vessel involved was the M.V. Ireland – a 110 m long, LNG-fuelled cement tanker that was launched in March 2016. The bunkering operation lasted five hours.

M.V. Ireland was constructed for JT Cement – a joint venture (JV) between Erik Thun AB and KG Jebsen Cement (KGJ) – and is one of the world’s first dry cargo vessels to utilise an LNG-fuelled propulsion system (including a pressurised LNG tank in the hull).
