Transas receives DNV GL certificate for new ECDIS

Transas has released a statement claiming that it has received a certificate from DNV GL for its Transas Navi-Sailor 4000 ECDIS. This follows November 2015 when Transas successfully passed type-approval, and is the first system to be certified by DNV GL according to the new IHO and IEC standards, which entered into force in August 2015. Under the new standards, all vessels must be updated with the new software before the September 2016 deadline.

The new standards are based on user feedback, and were developed to tackle electronic chart display and information system (ECDIS) anomalies and to improve safety. Chartered information is shown in a clearer way, and audible alarms have been reduced in order to reduce stress and improve the user experience.

Frank Coles, the CEO of Transas, said: “Maintaining a quality certified ECDIS is critical for the future of the safety of navigation. Transas intends to lead in this respect. Companies should choose their supplier with care or they could find the ECDIS is not compliant going forwards."
