Gazprom, Shell approve Sakhalin LNG production increase
At a meeting between Gazprom and Shell, Alexey Miller, Gazprom Chairman and Ben van Beurden, Shell CEO, participants addressed the issues of the cooperation between the two companies.
In particular, Gazprom and Shell discussed the cooperation regarding LNG production at the Sakhalin II project. The potential of increasing LNG production at the project was highlighted, while the efforts of both companies were praised.
Background
In 2013 Gazprom and Shell signed an agreement outlining the principles of cooperation within hydrocarbons exploration and development in Russia's Arctic shelf.
As part of Sakhalin II, Russia's first LNG plant was commissioned in 2009. In 2010, the plant reached its full capacity of 9.6 million tpa. A total of 10.8 million tons of LNG and 5.4 million tons of oil were produced from the project in 2013.
In February 2014, Gazprom and Shell signed a memorandum-roadmap to prepare FEED documents for the third LNG production train within the Sakhalin II project.
