QRCI files LNG export request
Quicksilver Resources Canada Inc. (QRCI), a Quicksilver Resources subsidiary, has filed an application to Canada’s federal energy board, the NEB for a license to export up to 20 million tpa of liquefied natural gas (LNG). LNG would be transported from the proposed Discovery LNG site in the Canadian province of B.C.
If approved, the license would permit QRCI to export LNG for a period of 25 years beginning in 2021.
The request comes at a time when Canada is seeking to enhance its role on the global stage as an exporter of LNG. LNG will be shipped predominantly to Asian markets where demand is currently highest. B.C. alone has identified 12 potential export projects, as B.C. premier Christy Clark pushes for progress. The province signed an understanding earlier this month with the Chinese energy administration to strengthen trade ties.
Elsewhere in Canada, LNG Ltd yesterday acquired the Bear Head LNG export site from Anadarko Petroleum Corp. in a deal that is thought to cost in the region of US$ 11 million.
