Woodside Energy Holdings Pty Ltd, a unit of Australia’s Woodside Petroleum, has filed an LNG export application with Canada’s National Energy Board (NEB). The company is seeking to export 20 million tpa of LNG from a proposed terminal at Grassy Point, British Columbia (B.C.).

In January, Woodside obtained permission from the B.C. government to build an LNG export facility on the west coast.

B.C.’s Minister of Natural Gas Development Rich Coleman said that the application represented a milestone as was proof that B.C.’s strategy to supply Asian markets with LNG was gaining momentum. Of Woodside, Coleman said: “This is a company with experience operating natural gas projects around the world, and they have chosen B.C. to invest in tomorrow’s energy potential.

“We look forward to working with Woodside to create jobs and economic prosperity in our province as part of a sole proponent agreement signed last year.”
