Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., has issued a statement in support of the House of Representatives’ decision to pass H.R. 6, the Domestic Prosperity and Global Freedom Act introduced by Representative Cory Gardner.
The bill will help speed up the Department of Energy’s approval of US LNG exports.
Boustany said: “South Louisiana is poised to become a world leader in LNG production and exports, meaning thousands of new jobs right here at home. But the federal government must get its act together to unleash this potential. The Domestic Prosperity and Global Freedom Act streamlines the approvals process for new LNG facilities, removing the chokehold the federal government’s regulatory structure has placed on this industry while freeing up millions of dollars for investment into our community. This is a job-creating bill that will mean greater prosperity and opportunity for families in South Louisiana, and I’m proud to support it.”
Louisiana is a major producer of LNG. The Third District of Louisiana is home to the first two Department of Energy (DOE) and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) permitted non-Free Trade Agreement (FTA) LNG export facilities. Additionally, there are currently eight LNG export facilities within the Third District of Louisiana awaiting DOE approval to export to non-FTA countries.
