Linde’s California LNG plant awarded Responsible Care certification

Linde LLC has announced that it has received certification of its LNG plant, which is located in Altamont, California, US, under the American Chemistry Council’s Responsible Care^® programme. Responsible Care is a management system that can help companies improve performance in health, security and environment. The certification is mandatory for ACC member companies. Members must have headquarters and facility audits carried out by an independent auditor to ensure and verify that a system is in place to manage and measure performance. In Linde’s case, Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) served as the independent auditor.

Tom Dziak, the Plant Manager, said: "Responsible Care certification is consistent with our values as a team in Altamont, and recognises the approach we take daily operating the facility. The plant, in operation since 2009, is a joint venture company with Waste Management, a leading provider of comprehensive environmental solutions services in North America.

The LNG is produced from decomposing landfill garbage, and is then used to power Waste Management’s fleet of waste disposal trucks. Dziak commented: "This is a truly renewable, green fuel supply that produces up to 13 000 gal./d of LNG.

"Even our plant site is powered by electricity produced on-site by Waste Management from landfill gas."

The Head of Health, Safety and Environment for Linde North America, Holly Jerdi, said: “The employees at the Altamont plant did a great job handling all the details associated with ACC certification. It demonstrates Linde's commitment to sustaining the practices specified in the Responsible Care management system."

Since 2008, a total of 25 of Linde’s North American plant have been certified under the programme.
