InterOil Corp. has announced that it has assigned a drilling rig to the Elk-Antelope appraisal programme in Papua New Guinea. The PRL 15 joint venture (JV) is operated by Total, and will use the rig to drill the Antelope-6 appraisal well in late 2015.

Dr Michael Hession, the Chief Executive of InterOil, said: “Appraisal is a key step for the Papua LNG Project, InterOil's most important and immediate focus in our commitment to Papua New Guinea.” Hession took this a step further by announcing that its discretionary drilling programme, including the appraisal of the Raptor discovery, will be delayed until the Elk-Antelope programme is finished.

The surface of the reservoir was found at 1875 metres in the Antelope-4 ST-1 well – 36 metres higher up than the original penetration in Antelope-4. Casings were set above the reservoir and cement bond logs were recorded. Before the drilling commences, additional cementing operations are being executed in order to guarantee the integrity of the casing shoe.
