Liquefied Natural Gas Ltd (LNGL) and Magnolia LNG have announced that the Magnolia LNG (MLNG) project in Lake Charles, Louisiana, US has been issued a Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) by the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). The FEIS also extends to the associated Kinder Morgan Louisiana Pipeline (KMLP) Lake Charles Expansion Project.

This statement is a result of FERC Staff’s environmental and safety review of both projects. Comprehensive environmental, safety and security reviews, which analysed publicly available data, federal and state agency input, stakeholders’ comments, and information provided by MLNG and KMLP, were carried out.

The FERC concluded that the construction and operation of both of the projects would cause a limited adverse environmental impact, but that this impact would be insignificant with MLNG’s, KMLP’s and FEIS’ suggested mitigations.

By law, the FERC must now wait at least 30 days until it can make a final decision.

Maurice Brand, the Managing Director and CEO of LNGL, said: “We are very pleased with our progress in the FERC regulatory process since we filed our application on 30 April 2014. We look forward to FERC’s approval of the project in the near future. The receipt of the FERC approval is one of the important steps to move the MLNG project through to financial close.”
