Ramtech Building Systems – a design-build commercial modular building firm based in Mansfield, Texas, US – has announced that it has completed a 16 800 ft2 permanent modular building for Cameron LNG. The entire project was completed in 165 days and cost US$3.2 million.

The building is located at Cameron’s LNG terminal along the Calcasieu Channel in Hackberry, Louisiana, and was built using Ramtech’s Accelerated Building System (ABS) prefabrication construction method. This is a proprietary system that allows for the quick installation of factory-built modules, which are fixed directly onto a concrete slab foundation.

The building is Type V-B blast resistant, and features private offices that include a glass interior storefront partition system around the perimeter of the interior, and a large L-shaped clear span office area for multiple cubicles. In addition to this, there are separate crew rooms, a locker storage area, and two large rooms for training and conferences.

The modular building had to meet a 170 mph Exposure D wind load, Seismic Category A, and .54 psi Blast Overpressure rating. This placed significant demand the building’s structural system, including using O.S.B. sheathing installed on both sides of the 6 in. exterior steel studs. The roof features 2 x 10 wood framing and plywood sheathing supported by open web steel trusses that are attached to structural steel tube columns welded to 1 in. thick steel plates embedded and anchored into a 4000 psi concrete slab foundation with reinforced grade beams. Ramtech also installed Lennox roof-mounted HVAC units in order to account for the region’s high humidity and the outside air intake requirements of the building’s occupants. The exterior of the facility is wrapped in standard R-Panel metal siding.
