The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (CEAA) has released its Draft Environmental Assessment Report for the proposed Pacific NorthWest LNG Project, located approximately 15 km south of Prince Rupert, British Columbia (B.C.), Canada.

The CEAA concluded that the LNG project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects on harbour porpoise and as a result of greenhouse gas emissions.

However, the draft report continued: “With respect to all other valued components, the Agency concludes that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects taking into account the implementation of the key mitigation measures.”

The draft report will be finalised following the public and Aboriginal consultation period. Comments must be submitted by 11 March 2016. The report will then be submitted to the Minister of Environment and Climate Change to assess whether or not the LNG project is likely cause significant environmental effects.
