US DOE approves exports from Kenai LNG plant

According to Reuters, the US Department of Energy (DOE) has approved ConocoPhillips’ request to export approximately 40 billion ft³ of gas from the Kenai LNG plant in Alaska, US, over a two-year period commencing 19 February 2016. ConocoPhillips will, therefore, be able to export gas to any country in the world that the US has a free trade agreement with, or with which trade is not banned by US law.

Reuters claims that, on average, the US exported approximately 0.07 billion ft³/d of gas from Alaska in 2015, and that this is expected to rise to 0.5 billion ft³/d in 2016 and 1.33 billion ft³/d in 2017.
