Gazprom holds forum to discuss LNG

As part of the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Russia, Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, held various meetings to discuss Gazprom’s recent developments within the LNG industry.

In one meeting with Yorihiko Kojima, Chairman of the Board of Mitsubishi Corp., the two parties discussed the cooperation between the companies in the gas industry, with a focus on the deepening cooperation within the LNG sector, including the Sakhalin II project.

LNG exports to South Korea

Mr Miller also met with Lee Seung-hun, CEO of Kogas, to discuss the successful cooperation between the two companies. Gazprom has been supplying LNG to South Korea from the Sakhalin II project, and there is potential for considerably more exports following the expanding LNG production in Sakhalin.

The extension of the Sakhalin II project was discussed in greater detail with Masami Iijima, Chairman of the Mitsui Board of Directors. The two companies are in talks over a possible interaction in the project extension.

Cooperation with Shell

A further meeting was held with Ben van Beurden, Chief Executive Officer of Shell, to discuss the strategic cooperation development between the two companies. Particular attention was given to the project for constructing the third LNG train within the Sakhalin II project, as well as the asset swap deal-related issues.

Within the signed Agreement of Strategic Cooperation, a decision was made to form a joint coordination committee for reviewing a whole range of issues on the priority lines of activity.

The parties also discussed further steps within the joint project for the Nord Stream II gas pipeline construction.
