Woodfibre LNG has announced that Sqomish Forestry LP will be carrying out log handling operations at the Woodfibre LNG site during the 2016 harvesting season. The site is located approximately 7 km southwest of Squamish, British Columbia (B.C.), Canada.

Specifically, Sqomish Forestry will be: logging in cut blocks, which are located outside of the site; sorting and bundling logs in the historical log sort area of the site; managing log booms in the foreshore of the site, and transporting them to Galbraith Log Sort in Squamish for further processing.

The President of Sqomish Forestry LP, Jeff Fisher, said: “Sqomish Forestry log handling operations are expected to last about three months and employ about 25 people […] something that would not have been possible without the agreement of Woodfibre LNG Ltd and we are thankful for their cooperation.”

The Country Manager and Vice President, Corporate Affairs, Woodibre LNG Ltd, Byng Giraud, added: “Supporting jobs in the local community is important to us.

“So while we wait to break ground on the Woodfibre LNG Project, we are happy to work with Sqomish Forestry LP, and at least temporarily breathe new life into the decommissioned pulp mill site.”

Woodfibre claims that, during the height of the log handling operations, the booming and transportation of the logs are expected to occur two to three days each week. This will depend on a number of factors, including tides, weather, wood volumes, etc. Marine water users are being encouraged to be aware of both storage and transportation activities between the Woodfibre LNG site and Squamish, in order to ensure that the shared usage of the waterway.
