LNG Industry,

The tender launched on 7 November by OLT Offshore LNG Toscana for the ‘FSRU Toscana’ terminal, open to all the operators in the LNG market, was successfully concluded with the awarding of the Peak Shaving service.

The company that has been awarded the service will provide Snam Rete Gas with a quantity of approximately 110 000 m3 of LNG. An additional volume, equal to 15 000 m3, has been purchased by OLT for the operational requirement of the terminal. OLT has offered the Peak Shaving service for the fifth consecutive year.

The company expresses a particular satisfaction with the outcome of the tender just concluded – six bids had been received – that has confirmed the growing accreditation of the terminal on the market of LNG, given the important expression of interest from the LNG operators.

The Peak Shaving service is one of the emergency measures established by the Decree of the Ministry of the Economic Development within the ‘Emergency Plan’ to face unfavourable events for the national gas system, which may happen during the winter period of the gas year 2017/2018, and to guarantee the security of the Italian Gas System. In case of emergency this service would allow, starting from 1 January 2018 until 31 March 2018, to insert gas in the network – previously unloaded and stocked into the tanks of the Terminal – at short notice with the aim to face peak requests of the gas system for a limited period of time.
