ABB has announced that it has been awarded a five-year contract to provide equipment and services for Shell’s floating LNG (FLNG) project – Prelude. Specifically, the order includes motors, generators, variable speed drives, and low voltage switchgear. In addition to this, the contract includes service and lifecycle management of the electric equipment, as well as service and support from third-party vendors.
Spare parts, workshop repairs, technical support and training will all be provided by ABB. Training will begin soon after the spare parts and replacement systems have been procured (this year).
Pekka Tiitinen, the President of ABB’s Discrete Automation and Motion Division, said: “A reliable service network is crucial for the facility’s productivity. Prelude will be equipped with ABB’s integrated marine solutions for optimal reliability, flexibility and energy efficiency to assure higher profitability.
“In line with our next level strategy of business-led collaboration, various ABB businesses will work together to mobilise the strength and experience of our entire global service organisation.”
The electrical system will provide power for 14 gas plant modules, which will enable the FLNG unit to produce 5.3 million tpy of liquids. Once Prelude has been towed to the northwest coast of Australia, it will be attached to the Browse basin, where it will remain for up to 25 years.
