The agreement involves expanding the supply of natural gas to multiple facilities in Baja, Mexico, as well as creating a new LNG hub off the coast of Mexico.

Shell has been selected by QatarEnergy as a partner in the North Field East (NFE) expansion project in Qatar.

Up to 7.5 billion m3/y of natural gas are to be handled via this terminal as quickly as possible. This is approximately 8.5% of Germany’s current gas demand per year.

The companies have signed an agreement to further develop Qatar’s North Field East project, which will expand Qatar’s annual LNG capacity from 77 million t to 110 million t by 2026.

GlobalData predicts that China will lead the global LNG regasification capacity additions between 2022 and 2026, contributing 26% of the total LNG liquefaction capacity additions.

Eni has been selected by QatarEnergy as a new international partner in the North Field East (NFE) expansion project, the world’s largest LNG project.

An incident occurred at the company’s liquefaction plant on Quintana Island that resulted in the release of LNG, leading to the formation and ignition of a natural gas vapour cloud and a subsequent fire at the facility.

Equinor and Cheniere have announced a 15-year purchase agreement of approximately 1.75 million tpy of LNG starting from 2026.

The companies, alongside Chevron Corp. and Italy’s Eni, are partnering on the North Field expansion, which will boost Qatar’s LNG output by 64% by 2027.

After extensive repairs and improvement work, Hammerfest LNG is back in production after the fire in September 2020.
