Gasrec wins low carbon fuel initiative award

Gasrec has been awarded the Low Carbon Fuel Initiative of the Year award at the 2014 Low Carbon Champions Awards held in Milton Keynes.

The competition judges stated: “Gasrec’s 85% growth in biomethane sales over 18 months is highly impressive. They have a scale of operation that is of national significance in helping to decarbonise the freight sector in the UK. They have brought together a highly influential industry group to disseminate results and galvanise action. Their efforts on driver and safety training also impressed the judges.”

Gasrec pioneered Bio-LNG for transport fuel and supplies more than 60% of gas powered HGVs on UK roads from 11 UK refuelling locations. In the last year it launched the UK’s first two open access Bio-LNG stations as part of its planned strategic network development.

The awards are an initiative of the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP); a public-private partnership that exists to accelerate a sustainable shift to lower carbon vehicles and fuels and create opportunities for UK businesses.

LowCVP managing director, Andy Eastlake, commented: “These awards recognise best practice, and outstanding leadership and innovation in cutting carbon from vehicles and fuels, as well as through other means. This year we had more, and higher quality, entries than ever before showing just how far and fast the whole low carbon road transport industry is now progressing, and how many individual stakeholders are contributing to the change.”

James Westcott, the company’s business development director, received Gasrec’s award.
