The nominees have been announced for this year’s Black Diamond Award, which acknowledges the most influential fuel projects that have helped to drive the emerging LNG market over the past year.
Nominees will be honoured – and the winner announced – at the World LNG Fuels conference and exhibition, to be held in Houston, Texas, US, from 2 – 4 February 2015.
The nominees for this year’s award are as follows:
- Mining and industry: Alpha Natural Resources’ LNG fuelled mine truck deployment.
- Marine: Totem Ocean Trailer Express’ twin Marlin Class vessels.
- Rail: Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway’s deployment of LNG fuelled locomotives.
- Oil and gas: Stabilis’ work to develop an oilfield-focused LNG fuel supply network.
- LNG fuel supply: FortisBC’s ongoing expansion and usage of its Tilbury peak shaver in a fuel supply role.
A panel of industry expert will select the best LNG fuel project based on the following criteria:
- Greatest technological innovation.
- Best project execution.
- Introducing the largest market to LNG.
- Overcoming the greatest risk.
2014 results
Last year, judges chose five finalists from each of five advancing LNG fuel markets:
- Marine: Buquebus’ Montevideo-to-Buenos Aires high-speed ferry.
- Rail: Canadian National Railway’s locomotive demonstration.
- Oil and gas field services: Noble Energy’s Keota, Colo. Project.
- Highway trucking: UPS’ US highway truck rollout.
- Industry: Omya’s Florence Vt. quarry and calcium carbonate plant.
The marine nominee - Buquebus’ high-speed ferry – won last year’s award, while UPS’ LNG fuelled truck fleet deployment was the runner up, and – Omya’s calcium carbonate quarry finished in third place.
