GNF opens natural gas station in Spain

Gas Natural Fenosa (GNF) has opened a new station for liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuelled vehicles in Motilla Palancar, Cuenca, increasing the number of LNG stations in Spain to 16.

The opening ceremony was attended by a number of leading political figures including the mayor of Motilla Palancar, Jesús Ángel Gómez Molina, the delegate of the Board of Communities in Cuenca, Rogelio Pardo, and the deputy of the central government in Cuenca, Angel Mariscal.

The new station, with a capacity of 60 m³, will supply both LNG and compressed natural gas (CNG) to vehicles. The infrastructure is capable of refuelling 10 000 trucks with LNG and 40 000 light vehicles with CNG each year.

The station is ideally located on the A3 route, will offer fleets fuel supply over long distance journeys. It may also be used to supply municipal waste collection vehicles and buses.

The station in Motilla Palancar is one of seven that has been built in Spain under the European project Garnet (Gas as an Alternative for Road Transport), led by GNF. Stations installed in the main transport corridors will provide liquefied natural gas and compressed natural gas to vehicles that use these cheaper and cleaner fuels.

Gas Natural Fenosa has 36 stations in Spain, with a total supply capacity of 1003 GWh/y. These stations serve more than 3700 vehicles in Spain, including buses, waste collection trucks, taxis and fleet companies.

A total of 21 provinces now have public supply stations, among which are Barcelona, Madrid, Seville and Valencia.
