VIDEO: Fjord Line CEO discusses LNG ferries

LNG Industry,

In this video, Ingvald Fardal, CEO of the shipping company Fjord Line discusses why the company chose LNG as a fuel for its two newbuild ferries and why it elected for Rolls-Royce to supply the LNG-fuelled engines.

The two new LNG cruise ferries, the Bergensfjord and MS Stavangerfjord, currently operate between Bergen, Stavanger, Langesund (Norway) and Hirtshals (Denmark). They were delivered by the Norwegian shipbuilder Bergen Group in 2013 and earlier this year. In July this year, it was announced that the European Investment Bank (EIB) was providing a €124 million loan to shipping company Fjord Line for the expansion of its LNG-fuelled fleet.

Fjord Line's new cruise ferries are 170 m in length and have deadweight of 3900 t. Each ship has 306 cabins. Both are equipped with four LNG powered engines with 12 cylinders that produce 5400 kW (7300 hp) of power.
