Caterpillar: LNG in remote settings
Providing electrical generation to remote areas is being transformed through projects such as the West Kimberley Power Project (WKPP) in Western Australia.
As the largest power plant in the West Kimberley region, the Broome Power Station runs on 17 Cat® G3520C gas-fuelled generator sets, each with a capacity of 2 MW.
Commencing operations in 2008, the project consists of five power stations, four fuelled by LNG, produced at a 200 tpd LNG plant that has its own dedicated transportation infrastructure.
The project is structured as a 20-year power purchase agreement between Energy Developments Limited and Horizon Power, the government-owned regional power company.
